To apprise President Pranab Mukherjee of the AAP Government’s vision on education, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Education Minister Manish Sisodia met the President on Friday evening and discussed the Delhi Government’s initiatives in the field of education.
During the meeting, CM and Deputy CM informed the President of “improving” teacher student ratio in classrooms. “Presently, many classes have more than 100 students in each class. It is impossible for any teacher to teach so many students. Therefore, the Government is building 45 new schools and adding 12,000 new classrooms to existing schools,” they told the President, according to a statement issued by the Government.
They also told the President that the Government is planning to bring a law to prevent siphoning of funds from private schools which is expected to reduce fees of many private schools. “Also, a law is being brought to ensure admissions in private schools in a transparent manner to prevent illicit donations,” the statement said.
They also told the President that by July 2016, all schools will have clean and separate toilets for boys and girls, apart from having clean drinking water, science labs and other activity rooms.
They also discussed the Government’s proposal of giving all principals complete financial and functional autonomy within clear accountability parameters. They also told the President that CCTVs are being installed in all classrooms to monitor teacher and student behavior and in corridors to ensure safety of children, said the statement.
Apart from that, other issues like reduction of syllabus by 25 percent, admissions under EWS quota, skill development programs started in 200 schools, loan for higher education, setting up of a sports university and a world class skill centre were also discussed.
