Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday participated in voluntary labour from the historic Digambar Jain Lal Mandir in Chandni Chowk to the Gurudwara Sis Ganj Sahib. She swept the streets and disposed of waste in bins, sending a clear message that cleanliness is not just an individual responsibility but a collective one. During the visit, she inspected the market with officials and issued directions for special cleaning arrangements ahead of the upcoming festivals.

Chandni Chowk’s BJP MP, Praveen Khandelwal, department officials, and residents were also present. During the inspection, the Chief Minister highlighted broken grilles, damaged roads, cracked pavements, and broken dustbins, instructing officials to repair them immediately. She also directed the removal of road encroachments, repairs to street lights, organised tree planting on dividers, and the removal of illegal banners and posters.

She emphasised that, with the festival season underway, cleaning in this historic market should be done twice daily- early in the morning and in the afternoon so that the area remains consistently clean. She also announced that she will personally inspect Chandni Chowk again before Diwali to ensure that all arrangements are in place. The Chief Minister appealed to shopkeepers to maintain the cleanliness of their shops and surrounding areas and to ensure that their staff are aware of their responsibilities. Expressing concern over litter, scattered betel nut residue, and dirt in public areas, she said that preventing such behaviour is not just a legal issue, but a social responsibility.
