The Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal on Friday has asked all its Member of Legislative Assembly (MLAs), to hold public meetings to take feedback from the residents of Delhi about the ‘free fare scheme for women’ in Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus and metro trains.

Eyeing on the upcoming Assembly elections and to crowd mobilize for its ambitious plan, all the MLAs have been given seven days to conduct public meeting, small ‘sabhas’ to submit the feedback report by end of next week.

The MLAs will be conducting more than 1000 such small meeting across the city covering all Assemblies. “I myself took a ride in seven different buses and interacted with the commuters,” said Sisodia.

The commuters welcomed the Government’s free fare scheme but the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is the one which is opposing the scheme meant for women safety and empowerment calling it a poor and unplanned scheme.

Thus, the CM has called a meeting of all party workers, woman wings and the volunteers to conduct different meetings all over the city get direct feedback from the people about the scheme.

The party workers will ask the people their feedback, said Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.

Sisodia said that the MLAs will start the meetings from tonight and will conduct more than 1000 meeting in the next week. “The question that our MLAs would be asking the people is: 1- What is the logic between fares free scheme? 2. BJP is opposing them, why are they doing so?,” he said.

The Minister further added that this is an important scheme, not only for the security of women but also for the empowerment of woman. We believe that this scheme will empower the woman and girls to pursue their dreams and can go to work.

But the BJP is against this scheme and this survey will provide them the answer, said Sisodia.

Besides, the Government has also created an online platform:  dellhimetrowomensafety.com where the public can send their suggestions and feedback on the free fare scheme till June 15.

Further, the Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot on Thursday said that the DMRC is planning to issue pink tokens for the woman passengers.
