It seems that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had ignored warning that the anti-corruption watchdog Transparency International India (TII) gave to him in May against his Personal Secretary Rajendra Kumar’s corruption issue.
The letter dated May 27, 2015, was sent to Kejriwal, lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Pranab Mukherjee and the Chief Vigilance Commissioner (CVC).
“Recently we have received an anonymous complaint about Rajinder Kumar (IAS AGMUT cadre), alleging corruption issues as well disproportionate asset. The complaint is addressed to lieutenant Governor, Delhi. Our organisation requests you to kindly look into the issue and takes necessary steps to ensure that if the allegations made against Kumar are true then appropriate steps should be taken against the accused. We urge you to refer this case to appropriate investigating agency. Since, this is a sensitive issue, your personal intervention will be much appreciated,” stated the letter.
It also emerged from the letter that TII also gave a copy of the complaint to Kejriwal for proper cognizance into the issue. The letter that was signed by Executive Director Ashutosh Kumar Mishra and Director Director (AlAC & PAHAl) Ram Nath Jha and was sent to the CM for necessary action.
On Tuesday, the CBI raided the third floor office of Kumar in Delhi secretariat which ultimately triggered a political storm. Kejriwal insisted that the raid was politically motivated and was a part of vendetta against him. He further rebutted that the Kumar was just used a pretext to enter Chief Minister Office. Kejriwal took on to social media platform to vent out his frustration and alleged that the whole raid was Central Government’s tactic to go against him. “When Modi couldn’t handle me politically, he resorts to this cowardice,” Kejriwal said. Kejriwal went on to call Prime Minister Narendra Modi a “coward” and a “psychopath” in another tweet.
