Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Delhi Assembly, Vijender Gupta, said the Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s claims on effective pollution control by the Delhi Government stand fully exposed with air quality index touching almost 500 in many parts of Delhi.
Gupta said Kejriwal had been blaming stubble (parali) burning for Delhi’s poor air quality and claiming that Delhi’s pollution had come down by 25 per cent but stubble (parali) burning has polluted the air.
“Now when stubble is not being burnt in neighbouring States of Haryana, Punjab and UP due to hard stand of the SC the situation has become clear. It is the failure of the Government to control the pollution which has led to high pollution level today now,” he said.
Gupta said that by attributing Delhi’s poor air quality to burning of stubble Kerjiwal has been trying to escape from the responsibility. Without stubble burning the quality of air remains poor throughout the year except for the days when it gets reduced due to nature’s bounty, he added.
The overall air quality index (AQI) in the national capital read 382 at 4 pm, while the AQI entered the severe zone in Ghaziabad (432), Greater Noida (417) and Noida (414) on Thursday.
