A cleaner Yamuna, better infrastructure, improved waste management and a pollution-free Capital remain among the priorities of the Delhi Government, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said on Monday, asserting that her Government was working round the clock to address the city’s problems. Addressing journalists at a Diwali Mangal Milan gathering, the Chief Minister said the media played an important role in pushing the Government to work faster.
She said criticism and questions from journalists helped improve the pace of governance, while appreciation encouraged the Government to perform better.
Claiming a difference between the previous Governments and the present dispensation, the Chief Minister asked journalists whether they had seen a Chief Minister working continuously for Delhi. She said she, her Cabinet colleagues, MLAs and the party leadership were committed to working for the city’s residents.
The Chief Minister said she believed journalists also wanted Delhi to develop rapidly, with improved infrastructure, greener surroundings, cleaner air and a pollution-free environment. She listed cleaning the Yamuna and strengthening waste management among the issues the Government was working to address. “Whatever you think, or whatever the public wants, the Government is working tirelessly to solve all those problems,” she said.
She also made a political assertion about Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying his place in people’s hearts ensured that he was not going anywhere. “Modi is here, and the Government will work with full dedication,” she said, expressing confidence that the vision of a developed Delhi and a developed India by 2047 would be realised collectively.
