A Class XII student of a private school has been arrested for allegedly abducting and raping a minor girl in South Delhi’s Vasant Vihar. On April 25, the accused allegedly kidnapped the girl and later took her to a rented accommodation where he allegedly raped her.

The incident came to light when the victim was spotted near Aurobindo Apartments in the area and the locals made a PCR call. A case under Sections 376 (rape), 363 (kidnapping), 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and several Sections of Protection of Children from sexual offences (POCSO) Act was registered at Vasant Vihar police station.

Police said that the accused has been identified as Rahul (18), a student of Class XII, who is waiting for his result. “The victim lived with parents in Katwaria Sarai in South Delhi and she knew the accused for the last three months,” a senior police officer said. The incident took place on April 25 when the accused asked the victim to come for a meeting in a restaurant. “After meeting, the accused forcibly took the victim to a rented flat where he allegedly raped her. After raping her, the accused also threatened her with dire consequences if she informed anyone about the matter,” a senior police officer said.

Police said that the victim later managed to escape from his clutches and reached near the Aurobindo Apartments where she was found by the locals in a worried condition. A passerby made a call to the Police Control Room and informed the police about the victim.

“After receiving the PCR call, local police reached the spot and the victim was taken to nearby hospital. The medical examination of the victim also confirmed rape. Based on the victim’s complaint, a case was registered at Vasant Vihar police station and after registering the case, several raids were conducted for the absconding accused. But later he was arrested,” the officer added.

In another incident, a 35-year-old factory worker was arrested for sexually assaulting a minor girl in her house in Moti Nagar area of West Delhi. The accused, Avadh Raj, known to the girl’s family, was arrested on Saturday from his house in Moti Nagar. “Avadh assaulted the 7-year-old girl on Wednesday afternoon when her parents were out of their house,” a senior police officer said.

The incident came to light when the victim’s parents returned and she informed them about the incident who in turn informed the police. “The child’s medical examination also confirmed sexual assault, which, however, was not rape. Raj worked in a fan manufacturing factory in the same area, police said. He was booked under the provisions of POCSO Act,” the officer added.
