CJM still not held for wife's murder

Despite registering a murder case against Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Ravneet Garg for killing his wife, the Gurgaon Police is yet to arrest him.  Garg and his family were questioned for nearly five hours on Sunday at Civil lines Police Station.

Meanwhile, a special investigating team (SIT) of Gurgaon Police inspected Parade Ground — where Geetanjali had been found dead — and collected samples with the help of experts from the Forensic Science laboratory (FSl) and sniffer dogs.

Geetanjali’s family has alleged that she was tortured for the past three months by her in-laws for not bearing a male child. The SIT interrogated the CJM, his father KK Garg and his mother Rachna. They asked around 15 questions and recorded statements in writing in the presence of the victim's family members. The team also interrogated Ravneet's cousin sister Heena, who had been staying with Geetanjali for the past three months.

According to Gurgaon Police Commissioner Alok Mittal, they have not come to any conclusion as yet and are investigating all angles."We are trying to ascertain the sequence of events. We have interrogated servants of the house and will soon identify leads, but it's too early to say if it’s a contract killing. We have raided the official residence of the CJM and impounded three laptops, mobile phone, his arms licence, weapon cover and live bullets for examining them. No arrests have been made," he said Geetanjali’s brother, Pradeep Aggarwal, had registered a case of murder against Garg and his parents.

Police are waiting for the paraffin test, finger-print and gun powder test for a confirmation of whether it was a suicide or murder. The other test and sample reports will come within the next three days from Madhuban laboratory, according to the police.

"She had strained relations with Ravneet. We are demanding a CBI probe as we feel the Gurgaon Police is investigating in a biased manner," said Pradeep. The victim's family resides in Panchkula and organised a candlelight vigil on Saturday night there. They also met Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda. Geetanjali was found dead on July 17 by children playing at the Parade Ground in Gurgaon Police line area.
