Civic polls: Congress to use social media, small meetings for campaign

Published on:

Gearing up for municipal polls, the Delhi Congress has decided to use social media and small meetings for campaigning. The party will also hold public discussions at famous eatery points in the national Capital with title “Delhi ki bat- Dil ke sath”.

The Congress will also hold a “chaat pe charcha” at Bharat Nagar and organise approx 200 small meetings keeping civic polls in view. Delhi Congress president Ajay Maken said that the party will also organize live discussion on Facebook.

“We will concentrate on close interaction with the voters instead of holding big meetings. Also we will discuss about Delhi’s problems and solutions with morning walkers and by using social media. A roadmap to improve solid waste management and sanitation condition will be unveiled at the Tamarind Hall of the India Habitat Centre in which Jairam Ramesh will lead a panel discussion. Our efforts would be to make Delhi at par with the best global cities in the world,” Maken said.

Earlier, Delhi Congress had unveiled a detailed roadmap to revive the financial condition of the three municipal corporations, claiming that Congress will make the “financially-ailing corporations self-reliant” within two years if voted to power. The draft plan was unveiled by former Finance Minister P Chidamabaram and Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia, as the party is eyeing a comeback in the civic elections after severe drubbing in the last Delhi Assembly elections in which it drew a blank.

The draft blueprint also envisages Rs 2,000 crore annual fund for development of infrastructure-deficit areas, particularly the unauthorised colonies.

Maken also maintained that senior party leaders and experts like P. Chidambaram, Jyotiraditya Scindia, Jairam Ramesh, Sashi Taroor and Salman Khurshid, are being involved to make roadmaps to reform primary education and primary health.
