Civic bodies bypolls: Cong focuses on ward-specific problems

In a unique strategy ahead of the May 15 by-elections for 13 municipal wards, Delhi Congress President Ajay Maken on Monday released ward specific manifestos highlighting the special problems of each ward. The manifestos, prepared by the Delhi Congress after an extensive door-to-door survey, seek to address the local problems of each ward which need to be addressed on a priority basis, DPCC chief Ajay Maken said.

''The Congress party did a door-to-door survey before finalising the party manifesto and incorporated the local problems which need to be addressed on a priority basis. The manifesto has been divided into two parts: One which was devoted to the local problems of Delhiites and second part talked about ward specific problems. The party has prepared ward specific manifestos highlighting the special problems of each ward,'' Maken said.

Pointing out that the by-elections to the 13 MCD wards were being held owing to the efforts of the Congress as the party filed a Public Interest litigation in the Delhi High Court which directed the Delhi Government to hold the by-elections to the MCD wards,  Maken said the party has come up with eleven special points on the basis of which the party would seek votes from the people of Delhi.

''First and foremost, fiscal condition of corporations is really bad. If voted, the party would chart out a roadmap for revival in four months. There are no proper arrangements in place for sanitation work, and due to filth all around, people are falling ill. The sanitation problem will be addressed on a high priority basis,'' Maken said.

The Congress manifesto promises that the party would cancel the ration cards of the poor people having two KV or more power load.
