Amid the potential threat of the Covid-19 third wave, the Delhi Government will train 5,000 youths as health assistants. They will be trained in basic nursing, as paramedics, in giving first aid and in home care operations. During the previous two waves of Covid-19, an acute shortage of medical staff was witnessed.
“As you have been observing for the last 10 days, arrangements are being made in Delhi against the possible third wave of Covid-19. In the last few days, I have visited hospitals, and many oxygen plants are being installed, oxygen concentrators, oxygen cylinders, and oxygen storage tanks are being arranged in view of the possibility of a third wave,” Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said while announcing the youth training programme.
Delhi’s IP University and nine medical institutions will provide technical training to these youngsters who will work as assistants to doctors and nurses.
“They will work on tasks assigned to them by the doctors and nurses. They will be trained in basic nursing, lifesaving first aid, home care and as paramedics too.
They will be trained in basics like how to measure oxygen, blood pressure and vaccination.
They will also be trained in patient care, diaper changing, catheter insertion, bedpan use, sample collection, how an oxygen concentrator works, how an oxygen cylinder works, how to put on the mask, etc,” the Chief Minister said
These youth will be given a salary according to the number of days they work. So, online applications will be accepted from June 17 onwards. The training programme will start from June 28 onwards in batches of 500 each and every batch will be trained for two-weeks.
Kejriwal said, “All those who have passed their class 12th are eligible.
They should be 18 years or more of age and applications will be accepted on a first come, first served, basis. I believe this will strengthen our preparation for the expected third wave as manpower will be available in case it does emerge. I again hope that a third wave does not come about, but as per the information from the UK, a third wave has emerged there. So, we should also be fully prepared, keeping in mind the developments all over the world.”
