Extreme humid conditions made life severely difficult for city dwellers on Wednesday. Fighting the sultry weather, even power demand reached the peak for this season settling at 5528 MW. Power outages continued across the city while the city reeled at 41.2 degree Celsius. However, the situation improved towards the later half of the day as light rains occurred in several parts of the city.

Delhi’s peak power demand, on Wednesday, touched 5528 MW at 4:08 pm marking the season’s highest peak power demand. This year, the peak power demand is expected to reach 6000 MW, surpassing the all-time high of 5653 MW, reached last year. Meanwhile, East and West Delhi continued to reel under power outages to the tune of three hours during the day. Areas like Mayur Vihar Phase I, II and III, Krishna Nagar, laxmi Nagar, Karkarduma, Preet Vihar and Nirman Vihar.

City dwellers were delighted in the evening of Wednesday as the Capital witnessed light rains in several parts. In general, hot and humid conditions continued to prevail in the national Capital, days after intermittent rains brought respite from the sweltering heat. The maximum temperature settled at 41.2 degrees Celsius, two notches above normal, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 29.2 degrees Celsius, a notch above normal, MeT officials said, adding that humidity rose to over 70 per cent.

The Met department has predicted a partly cloudy sky on Thursday with slim possibilities of rains. “Thundery conditions could occur in some areas of the city on Thursday. The maximum temperature will be 42 degree Celsius and the minimum shall be 28 degrees,” said a Met official. On Tuesday, maximum temperature was recorded at 43.3 degrees Celsius while the minimum was 32 degrees Celsius in the city.

Intermittent showers in the city from Thursday to Saturday last week had given Delhiites respite from the extremely hot and dry conditions which persisted from June 3 to June 9 when temperature hovered around the 45 degrees-mark. The rain, however, has caused humidity levels to increase.
