The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled three municipal corporations of not cleaning the city drains before the approaching monsoon which may result in heavy waterlogging across the national Capital.
Senior AAP leader and MCD incharge Durgesh Pathak on Tuesday said that the monsoons are approaching in Delhi but the cleaning of drains has not been completed, resulting in increased waterlogging.
The AAP leader further said that every year, people have to face waterlogging in Delhi due to heavy rain and still Municipal Corporations have completed only 20 per cent of desilting works.
“In Delhi around 90 per cent of drains are under the jurisdiction of the BJP-ruled MCD. Last year, a child died due to waterlogging and in the Karol Bagh area, many jhuggis were washed away due to flooding,” he said.
He further added that all the small stretches of drains which are present at the residential areas of Delhi also come under the BJP-ruled MCDs.
“The AAP demands that corporations start cleaning all the drains under their jurisdiction as soon as possible,” he added.
