People of Delhi will finally get to see Delhi’s tableau at the 68th Republic Day parade at the historic Rajpath. The theme representing the national Capital would be ‘education’ which is claimed by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) led Government to be the most happening area of this year — as a host of projects were completed by it.
In a Press conference, the Tourism Minister, Kapil Mishra informed about the initiative on Wednesday.
Delhi is among 15 States which will have a tableau during the parade. Mishra said Delhi Government’s initiatives such as model school project, parent teachers training programme, skill development centres and mega parent-teacher meetings will be highlighted on the tableau.
“In 2016, it was the AAP Government in Delhi and yet Delhi tableau was missing which concerned us. Thus, next year we are working closely with the Central Government to prepare a very colourful and attractive tableau,” he added.
The Delhi Tableau will also have a replica of the Jantar Mantar — an equinoctial sundial, consisting a gigantic triangular gnomon with the hypotenuse parallel to the Earth’s axis. A special song about education is also being prepared.
The Department of Arts and Culture and the Sahitya Kala Parishad were tasked to finalise the concept for the tableaux. According to Mishra, the last tableau that Delhi had in 2013 represented the national Capital as a ‘culture hub’ since the city is home to people from various religions and culture.
Meanwhile, he said the Delhi Government had asked cooperation from the Union Minister for Minister for Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation for a project to clean Yamuna river costing `6,000 crore. He said they (AAP) were hopeful to get at least 50 per cent of funds from the Centre.
Kapil Sharma said the water supply issues were rampant during the last two months because the Government was preparing for the summer. He said the leakages and damaged water pipes were identified and work was carried to reconstruct them which caused the difficulties of water shortage across Delhi. However, he assured that the water in his constituency Karawal Nagar would be restored on Thursday.
