The parents of the 23-year-old paramedic on Monday participated in a prayer meeting where the mother broke down while remembering her daughter who had died in a Singapore hospital after battling for life for 13 days.

“We have not yet got justice. We want all the culprits including the one, who was a juvenile at the time of the incident, to be hanged,” the father said.

Her parents attended a function at Constitution Club to pay tributes to their daughter. Several politicians, including former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, BJP leader Sushma Swaraj and actress Shabana Azmi also attended the meet.

“There would be a trust for rape victims. The trust will provide every kind of aid to them,” said the mother. The mother broke down when she met Dikshit and Shabana Azmi.

Meanwhile, a large number of people lit candles at the Munirka bus stop in South Delhi from where the girl along with a male friend had boarded the bus, thinking it to be a legitimate public carriage.

Boarding a chartered bus from Saket, the activists stopped by at the Munirka bus stand from where the duo had boarded the bus and chanted slogans and sang songs of “fearless freedom”.

The gathering included students, artists, photographers, feminists and film actress Swara Bhaskar also lent vocal support to them. Her father and strategic affairs expert C Uday Bhaskar was also in the crowd.

Wearing red, black and pink bandanas, they held up placards reading We’ll Take No More, Bekhauf Azadi, Silence Hides Violence — Speak Up and Nirbhaya — One Year later and recalled that fateful night.

Additional police personnel were deputed at Munirka bus stand, including a female constable. Security had also been stepped up in the national Capital since Monday night.
