The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), the designated paramilitary for securing vital installations, including the airport and the Delhi Metro besides Government buildings here, has issued masks to thousands of its personnel in view of the 'severe' category air quality in the national Capital region.

The paramilitary has provided N95-grade masks to its personnel deployed for securing vital government installations like the North and South blocks, the Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi Metro stations, Red Fort and other locations like the Central Government Office (CGO) complex as also various government buildings.

Pollution levels in the national capital and satellite towns like Ghaziabad and Noida on Sunday deteriorated and air quality was recorded to be of 'severe plus' category.

CISF spokesperson Hemendra Singh said the force's Director General Rajesh Ranjan has directed all commanders of units deployed in the Delhi and national capital region to ensure that the masks are provided and are used by the personnel who remain in the open for hours as part of their routine duties.

"The CISF personnel will wear these masks till air quality improves. The force will also render medical assistance to its personnel deployed at Delhi-NCR having breathing troubles," Singh added.

The CISF has over 25,000 personnel deputed in the Delhi-NCR region with the maximum, about 13,000, deployed to secure the facilities of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).
