Self-proclaimed ‘Godman’, Ashok Jadeja, who was earlier arrested for cheating lakhs of people by the Gujarat Police, has been remanded in the custody of the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Delhi Police.

Ashok Jadeja, along with his associates, was arrested by Gujarat Police for duping over 2 lakh people all over India of Rs 562 crore. They promised the victims they would double or even triple the amount invested by them. They had duped over 2,800 people to the tune of over Rs 25 crore in Delhi and now investigators in the Capital are looking for Ashok Jadeja’s other associates, who are still at large.

Joint Commissioner of Police (EOW) Praveer Ranjan said that the arrested persons have been identified as Ashok Jadeja (38), Parveen Popat (35), Khimji Bhai Jadeja (58) and Kesha Ram (59). “Ashok Jadeja is the kingpin of the racket, while the others were agents who collected money from the victims,” he added.

Investigation also revealed that so far, over 2,800 complaints have been received by the EOW. “The accused persons were arrested by Ahmedabad Police. They have been produced in Delhi and are now on PC remand in EOW,” Ranjan added.

Talking about the modus operandi, Ranjan said that main accused Ashok Jadeja told a particular community he was blessed with divine powers of Sikodar Mata (revered by the community), who conferred upon him the capacity to triple money in no time. “The time required to triple the money was three days initially and subsequently it was enhanced to 25-30 days. The people of the community, all over India, were willing to offer large sums in the name of the deity as an ‘offering’ which was to be multiplied three times,” a police officer said. Ashok Jadeja had formed a body of agents who collected money from members of the community from all over India, reportedly ‘for the growth of the status of their samaj’,” he added.
