A youth, who had allegedly shoved an iron rod into a teenaged girl’s mouth for resisting his attempt to rape her, has been put on trial by a city court.
The court framed charges under various Sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 376 (rape), 452 (house trespass for causing hurt) and 307(attempt to murder), against Anil Devraj, who had allegedly attempted to rape and murder the 19-year-old student after trespassing on her house in South Delhi's lajpat Nagar in February this year.
"On February 4, 2013, the accused attempted to rape the victim and thus, committed offence punishable under Section 376 (rape) IPC read with Section 511 (criminal intimidation)," said Additional Sessions Judge Yogesh Khanna. The court, while framing charges, also said that Devraj had "assaulted the prosecutrix by inserting a rod in her mouth" causing grievous injuries to the girl.
Devraj, who was working with a local power distribution company, was arrested on February 5 after a case was lodged against him by the victim's family. Police had said that Anil came to the girl's house on the fateful night to collect electricity bill and since the girl knew him, she let him in. "After learning that the girl was alone in the house, he tried to force himself on her and assaulted her when she resisted," the charge sheet said.
