Chaos rules at Ghaziabad RTO as Yogi blocks agents' entry

Unprepared regional transport office (RTO) at Ghaziabad, which implemented the “No Agent Inside Offices” formula of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Aditya Nath Yogi, is facing chaotic situations with heavy inflow of applicants, who are yet to get used to standing in queues to get their works done.

Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) AP Singh said the office has enforced the Government’s rule of direct communication with the applicants without any middleman or broker. When the officer was asked about heavy rush at the windows where applicants are forced to stand for hours without even basic facilities for women and senior citizens, Singh just said that they are working it out.

JR Singh a resident of Sihani Gate area who was standing in the queue claimed that he had come to get his vehicle transferred in his name but was unable to do so despite his third visit to the RTO office.

“The forms are so complicated that applicants are not able to fill it without any assistance. The office staff is not ready to assist the applicants in filling up the form. On my first visit the dealing assistant pointed error in the form. When I rectified the error and visited the second time, the dealing assistant pointed to the deficient enclosures like pollution certificates and an affidavit which were not told to me on my first visit. I asked the dealing hand Manoj Maheshwari, he just refused to entertain”, a visibly frustrated Singh said.

There were others like JR Singh who complained  that  office is not prepared to enforce the rules of ‘No Agent’ since infrastructure is very poor. There is hardly any bench and fan to bring some comfort to those waiting for their turn especially women and senior citizens.

The attitude of the office staff is very rude added another applicant Prakhar Srivastava, who came to seek a driving license. “We are asked to submit the papers and errors are pointed out in installments. “ If they find any deficiency they should tell the applicant then and there. Why  applicants are humiliated by them and asked to come again and again”.

The ARTO did say that the office adopted the new culture instantly as the new government assumed office but shortcoming still remain and they were working on it.
