Delhi Jal Board (DJB) vice chairman Raghav Chadha on Saturday accused the Haryana Government of supplying less water which affected water production significantly in the national Capital and resulting in a severe water crisis.
Chadha said the Chandrawal treatment plant's production capacity has reduced to 55 mgd from its earlier 90 mgd, Wazirabad is producing 80 mgd compared to 135 mgd before and the Okhla water treatment plant is supplying 15mgd instead of its earlier 20 mgd.
“Since Haryana has deprived Delhiites of their rights, the daily water production in Delhi has come down from 245 MGD to 150 -145 MGD. He further informed that the Upper Yamuna River Board has directed Haryana to provide an additional 150 cusecs of water besides providing the legally prescribed amount of water to Delhiites,” he said.
It is the legal responsibility of the Haryana Government to provide water to Delhi as per the Supreme Court orders but still it has stopped the share of Delhi’s water, he added.
Addressing the media, the AAP MLA said Haryana has been supplying about 100 million gallons less water per day, which has led to water crisis in NDMC areas, central, south, and west Delhi.
"The Haryana government has stopped the legal right of the people of Delhi as directed by the Supreme Court. Because they have reduced the water supply in Yamuna, the three major water treatment plants are producing less water per day," he said.
AAP’s chief spokesperson Saurabh Bhardwaj emphatically said that if the BJP-led Haryana government does not release Delhi’s share of water in 24 hours, water supply will be stopped to Delhi BJP’s Chief Adesh Gupta’s house.
The AAP leader said that out of a total of 900 MGD of water consumed by Delhi, approximately 100 MGD of water was curtailed by the BJP led Haryana.
