Senior Congress leader PC Chacko is likely to get the charge of Delhi Congress affairs in the national Capital. He is expected to replace AICC general secretary Shakeel Ahmad who is proceeding on a long vacation to Canada.

Political circles are agog about former Deputy Speaker of Delhi Assembly and JD(U) MlA Shoaib Iqbal may join Congress while two former Congress MlAs shift allegiance to BJP ahead of the upcoming Assembly polls. A five-time legislator from Matia Mahal, Iqbal has recently met senior Congress leaders and expressed his desire to join the party. It may be noted that Iqbal’s son is a municipal councillor from Turkman Gate and his nephew is the municipal body’s member from Jama Masjid.

According to sources, Congress president Sonia Gandhi has also given her consent to appoint Chacko as the party’s in-charge of Delhi affairs after Ahmad’s request for two-month leave to visit his relatives in Canada has been granted. Ahmed was made in-charge of the party’s affairs in Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and Union Territory of Chandigarh in June last year. The formal announcement about Chacko, former MP from Thrissur lok Sabha seat in Kerala, taking charge of party’s Delhi affairs will be made shortly.

In another development, former Deputy Speaker of Delhi Assembly and five-time MlA from Matia Mahal, Shoaib Iqbal may join the Congress party.
