Showing zero tolerance towards illegal practices taken up for election campaigning, the Chief Electoral Office (CEO) in the Capital has set up a round-the-clock grievance cell that will address the complaints within a stipulated time of 24 hours.
The CEO has received 2,193 complaints within 15 days regarding lost voter ID cards, removal of banners/posters from private property, correction of particulars on the voter cards to name a few. Out of these, 2,095 complaints have been disposed off.
“This mechanism works 24x7 and we receive all kinds of complaints related to nuisance caused by the campaigners. Most of the complaints are that of lost voter ID cards or removal of banners from their vicinity or from private property,” said Ankur Garg, Chief Nodal Officer (Delhi Election).
To report any nuisance or illegal practice, the complainants can dial a toll free number and get their concerns registered. The registration number will be provided to the caller along with an SMS notification. The complaint can be followed up on the same toll-free number -- 1800111400.
“We try to act against all the complaints, which violate the model code of conduct, but there are certain complaints which are farce and they are disposed off without any action. For example, there was a complaint against some party member for causing nuisance on the street, but when enquired it was found that the person was not even in the city. Such complaints do not require action,” said Garg.
The complaints received from across the city are transferred to the concerned Returning Officer of a constituency and are acted upon within 24 hours. The CEO has been extensively promoting the helpline number through advertisements and posters in the Capital to provide a platform to citizens for a speedy redressal of complaints ahead of and during the elections scheduled for December 4.
