In a bid to motivate voters to come forward and exercise their franchise in the ensuing Delhi legislative Assemble elections, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Delhi will launch a massive awareness campaign. As many as 863 campus ambassadors in universities, colleges and educational institutions here, mostly including principals, professors and lecturers, will be appointed.
Delhi CEO Vijay Dev announced the campaign after convening a high-level meeting of officers of the Delhi Government on Tuesday. He said that the campaign will be taken to the masses through nukkad nataks, concerts, dance dramas, door-to-door campaigning and weekly markets. “We are investing our best efforts to ensure that a maximum number of people register themselves as voters and exercise their franchise. For translating this into action, we are working on an IMF programme i.e., to Inform, Motivate and Facilitate people for registering themselves as voters. We have appointed 863 campus ambassadors,” said Dev.
The CEO has decided to open registration desks in 130 Gender Resource Centres working for poor and needy women and register them under the voter registration scheme.
The meeting was also attended by Secretary of Art and Culture and Director of Information & Broadcasting SS Yadav, who suggested use of public places for setting up of registration counters at malls and theatres. “Slides can be shown in theatres and departmental websites for motivating the youth to register on electoral rolls,” said Yadav.
