Centre asked city officials not to increase Covid tests, alleges Chadha

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national spokesperson and MLA Raghav Chadha on Thursday said that the Bharatiya Janata Party led Central Government has instructed the Delhi Government officials not to increase the number of tests in Delhi.

Chadha also said that Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain has already written a letter to the Central Government and requested to roll back this order. “The centre has ordered not to increase the testing in the Capital in an unconstitutional way and by keeping the Delhi government in dark,” he said.

Terming the order is inexplicable, incomprehensible and shocking, he asked the Central Government why they don't want to increase or let the Delhi government increase the number of testing which is being conducted on a daily basis.

Chadha said Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain has shared a note with the Central Government which clearly shows how the Delhi Government officials are not allowing the tests to increase due to the pressure from the center. He said that the Central Government must roll back this illegal, unconstitutional order which has a massive negative impact over the health situation of Delhi.

"Amid the COVID-19 pandemic everybody has accepted that testing more and more people is the only key to fight against this deadly pandemic. In such a situation the centre has ordered the top officials of the Delhi Government not to increase the number of testing and this is very unfortunate,” he said.

After number of cases spiked in the National Capital, being a responsible state government Delhi chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday called a high-powered meeting and ordered to increase the number of testing and to double the testing.

“The decision came to control and to stop the spread of COVID-19 in the capital. More testing and isolation are the keys to fight against this pandemic. But unfortunately after this decision by the Delhi Chief Minister, the top officials of the Bharatiya Janata Party led Central Government asked the Delhi Government officials not to increase the number of testing," Chadha said.

Chadha said, "The WHO has clearly stated that the only way to fight against this pandemic is testing, testing and testing. Keeping this in mind when the Delhi chief Minister took the decision to increase the number of testing then the BJP led Central Government has obstructed, he said.
