The CBI on Thursday registered five cases against 14 officials of the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) on corruption charges. The investigative agency conducted raids at 21 places in Delhi, Noida and Ghaziabad in connection with the multi-crore projects scam of the water utility.
The CBI officials registered cases against eight Executive Engineers and six Junior Engineers of the utility service for conspiring with a private firm to fraudulently cheat the Government to the tune of approximately Rs6 crore. “The DJB officials were found to be colluding with private firms for supplying spurious, cheap items of motor pumps, gear boxes and machinery and spare parts used in sewage treatment plants at exorbitant rates by showing the firm as authorised dealer of a manufacturing firm on the basis of forged and fake documents,” said a CBI spokesperson. It is alleged that Delhi Jal Board had cleared a Mumbai-based company Esenpro for the supply of the equipment. The Executive Engineers of Delhi Jal Board allegedly entered in criminal conspiracy with owner of Kirti Nagar-based Metro Projects and Sales Services, Raman Gupta during 2009-12 who forged letters of Regional Manager of Esenpro declaring his company to be authorised supplier of Esenpro equipment in Delhi, sources said.
