A special CBI court on Monday agreed to release the cash amount of Rs2.39 lakh which was seized by the CBI from Delhi Chief Minister Principal Secretary Rajendra Kumar’s office.
However, the court refused to release his laptop and iPhone saying these are vital for the investigation. The CBI had earlier told the court that the electronic devices have been sent for forensic analysis.
Special CBI Judge Ajay Kumar Jain in his order stated that the electronic items have been sent to CFSl, Hyderabad by the probe agency and they cannot be released to Kumar.
However, he can move a new application when his laptop an iPhone would be brought here after examination. He will also get back the cash amount of Rs2.39 lakh. The court has also directed him to furnish a surety bond. Rajendra Kumar had sought the return of his articles stating that the investigation was over and now the items would be of no use now. On this, the CBI replied saying that it cannot release the laptop and iphone at this stage as it has been sent for forensic test.
It, however, had said it has no objection in releasing him the cash amount, provided that Kumar furnishes a security of the like amount. On December 15 last year, the CBI had raided the office of Rajendra Kumar, close to the Chief Minister’s office here, in connection with the case.
