Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal had to “wait in vain” on Thursday after JNUSU president Kanhaiya Kumar could not reach in time to “thank” him but spoke to him on phone.
The students’ leader, who was released on bail in the sedition case, is meeting “Delhi-based political leaders” to express his gratitude for their solidarity with the student community during the JNU row.
“The meeting was postponed due to the traffic jam. The JNU student community wants the president to thank every political leader who came forward and expressed solidarity with us when he was in custody. He, however, spoke to him on phone,” Media co-ordinator of Kanhaiya Kumar, Jayant told The Pioneer. ‘
Kejriwal, along with CPI (M) leader D Raja, was scheduled to meet Kumar at CM office here on Thursday. Sources said the meeting has been rescheduled for Saturday.
Jayant said that Kumar had visited CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury on Wednesday. D Raja met Kejriwal along with his daughter Aparajita, who is also a JNU student.
Both Kanhaiya Kumar and Aparajitha are members of the CPI-affiliated All India Students Federation (AISF).
Kanhaiya was arrested on February 12 after February 9 event against the killing of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru on the campus snowballed into major controversy in the country. Kanhaiya was released on interim bail for six months by the court March 3.
