Following success of Delhi Jal Board’s pilot project at Savda Ghevra Resettlement Colony, Delhi lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung on Tuesday approved setting up of 500 water ATMs in the city. Besides, the water utility has also decided to fully commission the 20 MGD Okhla Water Treatment Plant. In a meeting convened with DJB officials, Jung also directed the water utility to prepare a long-term master plan for both sewer and water services for the city by the first week of August.
Jung approved setting up of 500 water ATMs in the city and he also directed the DJB to release water supply to 40 unauthorised colonies. “Some of these ATMs will be based on groundwater purified from RO-based systems, while others will be fed from tanker based supply. These will provide the citizens with an easily accessible, demand based, affordable supply system,” said a DJB official.
The move will supplement water supply, particularly in areas that are facing crisis, following the lt Governor’s directions, the official said. Ten such ATMs are being installed in South-West Delhi and will be operational by July, the rest will come up subsequently. Orders for installation of 10 reverse osmosis-based plants have already been placed and within three months over 50 ATMs will be installed.
