A day after an 11-year-old girl was rescued from a Madrasa in Ghaziabad, locals staged a protest at the Ghazipur police station on Tuesday against the cleric of the madrasa. Following the uproar, the Commissioner of Police has transferred the case to Crime Branch.

The locals suspect that the cleric is also involved in abduction and rape of the minor girl. While the minor girl was safely rescued, the Delhi Police on Tuesday apprehended a 17-year-old boy. “Section of the POCSO Act has been added to the abduction case.”

Ravindra Yadav, Joint Commissioner of Police (East) said, “There were some protests regarding the incident (of abduction and rape of the 11 year old girl). We have assured them that fair investigation is being conducted on merits and no one will be spared. Owing to the inter-state ramifications of the case and for thorough and in depth investigation, case has been transferred to the Crime Branch.”

Police said that minor girl went missing on April 21 after which her father submitted a written missing complaint at the Ghazipur Police Station.

The Delhi Police on late Sunday night raided the Madrasa where the girl was suspected to have been forcibly kept. A senior Delhi Police officer had earlier said that We have registered a case under section 363 of the Indian Penal Code. The girl was sent for medical examination which confirmed sexual assault after which we added the section of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012.
