Four days after Murali Karthik’s SUV had rammed into a Xylo, injuring two persons in New Delhi district’s Chankayapuri area, the police have registered a case against the cricketer. The injured also alleged that the Karthik’s alcohol test was positive, which was later tampered with to save him.
The incident took place on October 18 when Karthik, along with his wife Shweta, was returning from Taj Mansingh hotel. Karthik was on the wheels when the Volvo SUV rammed into another car injuring two of its occupants.
No complaint was made on the day of the incident; a case was registered only on the next day. Sudeep, along with his colleague Johns AK, was coming from the airport. Johns’ driver was behind the wheels of the Xylo. As they reached near Niti Marg, a speeding SUV banged into their car. Johns claimed that everything happened within a fraction of seconds as the vehicle in question was being driven at great speed. Sudeep suffered severe injuries. He was initially rushed to the RMl Hospital and was later shifted to the Pushpanjali Hospital.
“He underwent a 6-hour surgery on his right arm as his bones had broken into several pieces. He also sustained 12 stitches on his forehead. The doctors at RMl weren’t swift enough to provide him with the right treatment, said Johns. He alleged that the alcohol test conducted on the cricketer was tampered with by the medical officers at RMl.
“I saw the test report as positive, but later it stated negative. He is an influential personality and that could also be a reason behind this attempt to save him. The alcohol test conducted on my driver was negative. In fact, Karthik had himself confessed to the investigation officer about drinking and coming from the party,” Jonhs added.
Police officials denied any tampering of the alcohol report and stated that a case was registered on October 19 against Murli Karthik.
“A case under Sections 279 and 337 of the Indian Penal code (IPC) has been registered and arrests would be made soon. Karthik had not consumed alcohol and his tests proved that as well,” said SBS Tyagi, Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi district).
