In a tragic incident, a 10-year-old boy and his parents were mowed to death when a speeding Santro car hit them while the family was heading towards a nearby market in Outer Delhi’s Narela area on Sunday night.

The tragic accident has left the youngest member of the family — a seven-month-old baby girl orphaned. “Her parents had gone to buy her cough syrup when the mishap occurred,” claimed a relative.

In the preliminary investigation, it appears that a juvenile was behind the wheel of the car at the time of the accident on Sunday night, said a police officer probing the accident.

According to the police, the deceased have been identified as Mukesh, his father Ram Sanjeevan and his mother Sundara. The accident took place when the family was going to a chemist shop to get medicine for the baby, Ridhi.

“Ram was about to leave for the shop when Mukesh asked to come along for the ride. Thereafter, all three decided to go together,” said a senior police officer.

The accident took place near the Satyawadi Raja Harish Chandra Hospital red light when the speeding car hit the family from behind.

The impact of the collision was so severe that all the three victims were flung ten feet into the air before hitting the  footpath.

Ram’s brother-in-law Sharda told police that some residents of the area witnessed the accident and informed him.

“I rushed to the spot, and my nephew Mukesh breathed his last on my lap. Somehow I managed to inform the police after which all three were rushed to the local hospital,” said Sharda, Sundara’s brother.

The car driver stopped the vehicle and came out to see what had happened. But within a few minutes, he fled the spot in his Santro.

On reaching hospital, Mukesh was declared brought dead while his parents who were in a critical condition were referred to the lok Nayak Hospital. On Monday, Ram  and Sundara too succumbed to their injuries.

In the aftermath of this brutal accident, the baby girl Ridhi has been left orphaned.

“Ridhi got saved as my sister had left her with us,” said Sharda.

Police sources said that the local police has been able to trace down the owner of the car. Shiv Kumar, a resident of Narela is the car owner. Meanwhile, police said that no arrests have been made so far.

Police said that they have registered a case under appropriate sections of the IPC at the Narela Police Station.

The deceased Ram, who hailed from Barabanki in Uttar Pradesh, lived with his family in a rented accommodation in Sector-10 area of Narela. He was employed as a labourer in a factory there, police added.
