Capital will not face Muzaffarnagar anarchy: Dikshit

Reaching out to Muslims ahead of Assembly elections, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Monday listed out Congress’ contribution to the welfare of the people, including minorities, and its efforts in maintaining unity. Without naming any party’s role in the recent Muzaffarnagar carnage, Dikshit also stated that this atrocity would not be allowed in the Capital.

Addressing a gathering at the Dalit Muslim Sammelan, Dikshit said the gathering symbolises unity and honour. “We have all gathered here to take a pledge. Whether our country dwells in Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, Mumbai or Uttar Pradesh and people living there speak different languages and follow different religions, they are all one and they are all Indians first and foremost,” Dikshit reiterated.

“If any one of our brethren is weakened, the repercussions would be chancy and the unity of our country threatened. If we don’t stay united, the development of the country will be at stake,” she said. Dikshit said it is the Congress which has worked to fortify the Dalits. She elaborated on the various schemes and efforts initiated by Congress President Sonia Gandhi, including the Food Security Bill. The programme was organised by World Peace Harmony. Congress leader Jagdish Tytler, singer, Daler Mehndi and actor Ranjeet shared the dais with the Chief Minister.
