Girls mark up as boys miss the mark

This has become an annual ritual. Performance of girl students has been always better than boys. Girls left the boys way behind this year too in the Senior School Certificate Examination (Class XII) of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in Delhi region as they attained a 9.63 per cent higher pass percentage than them. As a total of 7,676 more girls passed than boys, the pass percentage of girls in this region was 91.72 while boys managed only a mere 82.09 per cent. According to the statistics released by the board, last year girls overtook boys only by 8.98 per cent as about 4,403 more girls passed than boys. The overall pass percentage in the region was 86.78 per cent.

The students of Delhi also performed better than the previous years. The region ranked third among the 10 regions of CBSE. Among toppers, Delhi turned out to have the best result in terms of individuals in all three streams. In the Science stream Sarthak Agarwal from Delhi Public School Vasant Kunj topped the country with 99.6 per cent. The toppers in Commerce and Humanities in Delhi are G Harishankar (Commerce) from Air Force Bal Bharati School with 99.2 per cent and, Mugdha Sethia (Humanities) from DPS Indirapuram and Vasudha Gaur Dikshit (Humanities) from Vasant Valley School with 98.8 per cent, informed BM Gupta, advisor, computer unit CBSE. A visible change in the number of compartments this year was also seen. From a previous 8.02 per cent of students with a compartment, there are 7.78 per cent such students this year. Even cases where students used unfair means during examinations are less. Though the Delhi region has the highest number of such cases in the country, they have reduced from 25 last year to 13 this year.

Among SC/ST candidates the pass percentage was 82.66 per cent which was an increase from last year by 0.56 per cent. Even among the special candidates in India, a student of Delhi’s Hans Raj Model School, Punjabi Bagh, Ashish Chhabra, topped with 96.2 per cent.
