Capital caught in a sticky situation

Published on:

Weather continued to remain hot and sultry in Delhi as high humidity levels coupled with a near 40°C temperature caused extreme unease to people in the city. However, there could be some relief in store on Wednesday as the weatherman has predicted rains in some parts of the national Capital.

There was no let up in the maximum and minimum temperatures on Tuesday with both remaining considerably above normal levels. While the maximum was recorded at 39°C, five notches above normal, the minimum settled at 28.5°C, two points above normal. The misery of city dwellers was doubled with high humidity levels which remained between 85 per cent and 52 per cent. Rains remained away from the city for the whole day. “Sunday afternoon’s 26.5 millimetres rain may have brought relief for Delhiites from the heat conditions, but it has caused humidity levels to shoot up drastically,” said an official in the MeT Department.

The weatherman has forecast a generally cloudy sky with possibility of rain or thunderstorms in some parts of the city on Wednesday. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to remain around 35°C and 27°C, respectively. On Monday, the maximum temperature settled at 36.6°C while the minimum was recorded at 25.9°C.
