Canines greet people who come for anti-rabies shot!

One would be surprised to see canines roaming freely in Hindu Rao Hospital near the department where anti-rabies vaccine is administered to the patients. Many come here to get anti-rabies vaccine only to be greeted by stray dogs wandering in every corner of the hospital. The authorities of the MCD-run hospital have apparently turned a blind eye to the matter.

On Friday, when The Pioneer visited the hospital, it found several dogs wandering freely in every department of the hospital. The authorities seem least concerned for the safety of the patients, who wait for the long hours to get the anti-rabies vaccine done, as well as the cleanliness of the hospital premises.

“We get over 250- 300 patients of the dog-bite and around 6,000 patients come for the vaccination of rabies every month,” said the nurse. “There are no efforts made by the higher authorities of the hospital to shoo away the dogs from the hospital premises,” said an official.

Asif, who had come to get a rabies vaccine, said, “I spoke to the authorities to remove dogs from here, but they are least bothered.” He added that while we get anti-rabies shots inside, many of us get bitten by the dogs roaming outside.
