Candidates must follow poll code, DU tells parties
Published on:

Ahead of its students’ union polls, Delhi University (DU) has sent a letter to political parties, including  BJP, Congress and AAP, requesting them to direct their candidates to follow the code and conduct in "letter and spirit" as set by the university.

"My earnest endeavour is to conduct the elections in a fair, free, transparent and impartial manner. Without the co-operation of the stakeholders which are mainly political parties, it would be very difficult to enforce the rules governing the DUSU elections. I hope you will agree with me that the inculcation of values and respect for the laws in the young minds shall go a long way in nation building," states the Chief Election Officer for the DUSU polls, Prof. DS Rawat.

The DUSU elections are scheduled for September 11.

The main student's organisation contesting in the upcoming elections are Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, the students' wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party, while the National Student's Union of India is a Congress backed student's body. Also in the fray is Chatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti, the student's wing of Aam Aadmi Party.

"They should bar from defacing any property and I seek your help in not issuing posters and other publicity material in the name of your party till the time the results for the DUSU elections 2015 are declared. This will act as a deterrent and will help us to conduct the DUSU election properly," reads the letter.
