Delhi Cabinet on Monday, decided to raise the monthly remuneration of teachers deployed by language academies in Government-run schools. The new remuneration for Post Graduate Teachers (PGT) has been increased from Rs 13,160 to Rs 23,265 and for Trained Graduate Teachers (TGT) from Rs 11,140 per month to Rs 22,935, with immediate effect.
Around 282 teachers were being deployed by language academies. After the Cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit stated that the Government had deployed Urdu, Punjabi and Sanskrit teachers from language academies in schools managed by the Directorate of Education, as part of the language Development Program. The teachers were engaged on part-time basis against the vacant sanctioned posts. later, they were made full-time in 2008. Their consolidated monthly remuneration was increased in July 2002, April 2005 and April 2007, during their part-time assignment.
Earlier, the Government in July 2008, further raised their emoluments consequent upon making them full-time language teachers against vacant sanctioned posts on consolidated monthly remuneration. The decision would provide relief to such teachers.
The Cabinet has decided to allow the retention of Government accommodation to all the retired re-employed teachers up to PGT level and vice principals and principals till they are re-employed. Dikshit stated that the basis of the decision is that these teachers are being re-employed automatically for two years after their superannuation from Government service and they cannot be treated as on-contract basis. It is expected that the decision would mitigate their problems. It is learnt that over 1,000 re-employed teachers would be benefited from this decision.
