Delhi Cabinet on Friday approved a proposal to give compensation of Rs 1 crore to the family of OROP veteran late Ram Kishan Grewal.
The Cabinet also decided to declare him a martyr. On the other hand, Delhi BJP has questioned the rationale behind the AAP Government’s Rs 1 crore compensation to the kin of an ex-serviceman whose suicide has triggered a row, alleging it was “politically motivated” and in “violation” of norms.
Delhi BJP unit chief Satish Upadhyay and senior BJP leader Vijender Gupta at a Press conference also attacked Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, and accused them of doing “politics over dead bodies”.
Gupta said the party will write to the lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung to request him to set up a panel on awarding of compensation, so that “public fund is not misused by politicians with vested interests”.
“He has called Ram Kishan Grewal a martyr (‘shaheed’). Is he instigating ex-servicemen to commit suicide, by glorifying the act of suicideIJ And, doesn’t the norm say, the compensation be awarded to those personnel who die in the line of duty, and are a resident of Delhi,” Gupta claimed.
