In a suspected case of road rage, a 40-year-old taxi driver Umesh resident of Sangam Vihar was shot dead in South Delhi's Kotla Mubarakpur Gurudwara road on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, police revealed
"A verbal row erupted when the side mirror of victim Umesh Sharma's car grazed the attackers' Honda City car in a narrow lane of Kotla Mubarakpur area in south Delhi", Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) South district Vijay Kumar said.
At the same time a Honda City vehicle with three-four men inside the car were driving from the opposite side. As they tried driving past each other, both the parties allegedly didn't want to back their car to give sides which led to their side mirrors slightly brushing together, police stated.
An argument broke out between the two groups. The accused took out a gun from his car and shot one bullet in the air before shooting the taxi driver in his chest at point-blank range. The driver died on the spot and was declared brought dead to the hospital, police said.
The accused immediately fled from the scene, along with the passengers, in his car. Police are questioning Umesh's friend to try and identify the accused individuals. Police are also looking through the CCTV footage of the area. The body of the deceased was sent for post-mortem.
