The Special Cell of Delhi Police has arrested six persons, including two brothers for allegedly trying to extort money from the business partner of one of the siblings. 42-year-old Delhi-based real estate developer, Vinay Jain, had hired notorious Haryana criminals to settle scores with his estranged financier-cum-partner, Mukesh Aggarwal and they were making extortion calls to Aggarwal and demanding Rs5 crore from him.
Police said that the accused have been identified as Vinay Jain, his brother Sanjay Jain (40) and four of their associates, Sanjay (31), Naveen (21), Ramkesh (20) and Vikas Sharma (39).
They were apprehended in the past one week following the investigations into a complaint filed by Mukesh Aggarwal in the last month that he had received an extortion call for Rs5 crore from unknown men. “The main conspirator Jain is a resident of Vivek Vihar and making several projects in Greater Noida. He is an owner of AVJ group and currently, they are investing around Rs3000 crore into their housing apartment project,” a senior police officer said.
“It is a classic case of business partnership turning sour wherein one of the partners (Vinay) in a real estate development company had hired professional criminals to settle scores with his estranged financier-cum-partner. The gang asked Aggarwal for Rs five crore within three days following which he approached police,” the officer added.
The complainant approached the police on March 9 and informed that he received an extortion call in which the caller had demanded Rs5 crore from him as protection money. “He was also threatened by the caller and had given three days time to arrange the payment of extortion money. Within days of the first extortion call, another threatening call was received by the complainant. The caller had told the complainant that he had received orders from ‘bhai’ to kill him if the payment was not made,” the officer added.
Police said that Vinay had business dispute with his partner Aggarwal. Vinay expressed his concerns with his brother who approached Sanjay in February in Behror of Rajasthan through his relative Vikas, who was working there in the factory owned by Sanjay Jain.
“Vikas introduced Sanjay to his employer under a false name Upender Jain. Sanjay Jain had booked two rooms in a luxury resort in Behrore where he and Sanjay r/o Nindana stayed for two days and discussed their plan of extorting money from the complainant. Once the details were finalised, Sanjay Jain left for China to create a plea of alibi while directing Sanjay to execute the plan,” the
officer added.
