Passenger Information System (PIS) boards installed at several bus stands in the city will soon be made functional. The display boards were introduced in New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) area and along the BRT corridor to provide information about the schedule of buses plying on the route. However, 50 per cent of them are out of order. The Pioneer had reported about the non operational PIS recently.
The Delhi Transport Corporation is now getting the data of DTC buses updated on the server and assured that they will be revived within a month. The move comes after the Delhi Traffic Police wrote to DTC chairman to provide information about the arrival of buses, as done in Delhi metro.
A DTC official confirmed that information regarding the timings of DTC and cluster buses would soon be available at over 250 bus queue shelters within a month. “PIS board at bus stops across the city would be operationalised gradually and the facility would be available at 252 bus stops within a month,” said a DTC official.
Acting on the traffic police suggestion, DTC started updating the data of duty allocation chart of the DTC buses. “The updating of data is to be done by the state transport authority. It could not be done due to some reasons. Now the data updating is being done by DIMTS,” he said, adding that it will take a month for compilation, so facilities may be started at 252 bus stops in one month.
There are around 500 city bus stops across the national capital, where PIS are installed. Out of the 252 bus stops which have PIS boards, 90 are on the BRT, while the rest are in the NDMC area. The PIS boards are operated by transport consultancy firm Delhi Integrated Multi-modal Transit System (DIMTS). Apart from the providing information about arrival of buses, the traffic police have also asked the DTC to ensure that all the bus stops are properly lit, to ensure security of commuters during the evening and night hours, especially those of women.
