While ruling out the third phase of odd-even scheme before winters, Transport Minister Satyendar Jain said on Tuesday that the big initiative on the agenda of the Government is implementation of the bus lane policy. He said that the Delhi Government is going to issue a notification by end of this month after which, motorists will have to pay a fine of Rs 2,000 for obstructing the bus lanes.

“Since pollution levels are low during the monsoon season, there is no need for odd-even scheme or car-free day at this time. But there is another big plan to implement bus lane policy for which we need all the support from media and the people of Delhi,” Jain said.

When asked by when the bus lane policy will be implemented, Jain said, “We will issue a notification by end of this month.”

Under the bus lane policy, while one can drive one’s car or bike in the bus lane, but one cannot stop there as parking or obstruction of bus lanes will not be allowed. A fine of Rs 2,000 has been proposed to be imposed on those who park their cars on dedicated bus lanes or encroach upon it or cause obstructions to the plying of buses.

Notably, the Government had tried to implement the policy earlier this year as well but lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung had returned the proposal seeking some clarification from the concerned department and the State Government. later, the AAP Government had decided to move a fresh proposal before the l-G. He had approved the proposal last month on the condition that it will be amended to ensure smooth movement of traffic and maintenance of public order.
