A gang of burglars has managed to break the lockers of the Punjab National Bank (PNB)’s Modi Nagar branch, taking away cash and valuables. No arrest has been made in the case yet that has put a big question mark over the safety and security of the bank’s lockers.
Police said the burglars first cut the concrete wall of PNB’s branch situated inside Modi cloth mills premises in Modinagar. “The incident might have occurred during weekly off days of Saturday and Sunday and came to light on Monday morning when the branch manager reached the bank to open it,” said the official.
Police officers said it appears that after cutting the boundary wall made of heavy concrete, the burglars broke the padlocks but when they failed to open the latch lock of the lockers, they succeeded in moulding the cover of the lockers to such an extent that hand could be easily inserted inside the locker.
On the complaint of the branch manager the Modinagar police registered an FIR and investigation has been taken up.
“I visited the crime spot and found that the bank lacks the security measures. If any attempt was made to intrude inside the bank from any side, a siren should have been installed and that could have alerted the security staff. We are investigating the incident as it is a serious one. The criminals behind this daring burglary must be brought to the book. The assessment of the loss could only be made when the individual reveals their assets” SP (rural) SN Singh said.
