While Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal appreciated the State Budget terming it as ‘Aam Aadmi’ Budget, the commoners also expressed their opinions. Social Media platforms, including Twitter and Facebook, kept buzzing with the ‘for’ and ‘against’ notions.
The Delhiites seem pretty happy with the VAT reduction to 5 per cent on several articles, where a Twitter user, named Kirandeep tweeted, “#DelhiBudget — VAT decreased in most of the items to 5%. Sweets, Namkeen, School Bags, Footwear, category of readymade clothes cheaper.” The Delhi Government’s proposal of the development of a Skywalk from Qutub Minar metro station to the Qutub Minar did not go unnoticed as a user Ashutosh tweeted, “World class “Delhi festival” this year to promote tourism. Before the surfacing of the Budget, a Facebook user posted a status stating, “Historical Budge by Delhi Govt. will be tabled today, will properly utilise the Tax payer Money for the Welfare of people .. India’s only state budget that national media takes interest in, because they know it will be the best one! .. I am never excited about Budget in my State, but Delhi’s budget will be historical!”
Meanwhile, some were seen quite disappointed with the Budget. As Delhi Government proposed 1000 new Mohalla Clinics in its Budget, a twitter user stated, “Truth of Healthcare in #DelhiBudget 500 Mohalla Clinics were promised last FY. Only 1 clinic built. This time, they have promised 1000!.” Another user criticised Government’s proposal of CCTV cameras in every buses while stating, “Promise — All DTC/Cluster buses to have CCTV cameras & marshals.
