BSP MP Dhananjay Singh, arrested along with his wife in connection with the murder of their domestic help, was denied interim bail on Tuesday for attending the ongoing Winter Session of Parliament by a city court. Additional Sessions Judge Daya Prakash dismissed Dhananjay’s plea seeking interim bail to attend the ongoing Session of Parliament, which is scheduled to conclude on December 20. Dhananjay and his wife Jagriti Singh are held in Tihar Jail. They were arrested on November 5 in connection with the death of their 35-year-old help Rakhi Bhadra, a resident of West Bengal.
The MP, who also faces charges of murder and offences under the Uttar Pradesh Gangsters Act, was arrested for allegedly destroying evidence, not informing police about the help’s death immediately and employing a juvenile as a domestic help.
Earlier, Metropolitan Magistrate Manocha had dismissed Dhananjay’s bail plea on November 20, saying that allegations against him were “very serious” and he does not deserve any leniency due to his “previous conduct”.
Dhananjay had later appealed for a bail before a Sessions Court, but his application was dismissed by Additional Sessions Judge, who observed that he had “actively participated” in atrocities which aggravated the miseries of his domestic helps.
