BSES seeks empanelment of private EV chargers

In order to create a single window process for installation of slow and fast chargers for ‘Electronic Vehicles’ (EV), BSES Rajdhani Power Limited on Wednesday floated a Request for Selection (RFS) for empanelment of private charging infrastructure providers with three Delhi discoms namely BRPL, BYPL and TPDDL.

The empanelment will be for both slow and fast chargers. It accompanied by the roll out of an innovative, single window facility for installation of EV chargers in private and semi-public spaces in Delhi, which includes residential spaces like apartments and group housing societies, institutional buildings like hospitals, and commercial spaces like malls and theatres, the Delhi Dialogue and Development Corporation said in a statement.

The Vice Chairperson of Dialogue and Development Commission of Delhi, Jasmine Shah said, “This is a crucial step by Delhi Government in developing an innovative, single window process for quick and efficient installation of EV chargers. This is in response to the many requests we have been receiving since Delhi government’s Switch Delhi campaign launched.

“The purchase and installation of EV chargers will be provided under two options – outright purchase and on a monthly subscription basis, it said. Once the facility is rolled out, consumers will be able to compare costs and features of different chargers on discoms websites, order a charger, and schedule its installation through a single call or an online order,” the DDDC said.

The decision to develop and implement this facility was taken by the working group for accelerated roll-out of charging infrastructure in Delhi, constituted by the Delhi government, in its fourth meeting held on June 14, 2020. The meeting was chaired by Shah.

The roll out of the program would enable any resident of Delhi to request installation of a charger in their premises either through the online portal of discom or by making a call to place a request, a senior government official said.

“The roll-out plan will ensure a single window process for consumers where requests for charger installation can be placed with vendors of EV chargers empanelled by discoms through a transparent process. Consumers will also be able to apply for a separate electrical connection with a special EV tariff,” he added.

The official said that the roll-out plan also includes disbursal of a grant of 100 per cent for the purchase of charging equipment up to `6000/- per charging point for the first 30,000 charging points, as per the mandate of the Delhi EV policy.

The unique approach taken by Delhi Government will make low cost smart EV chargers easily accessible to the public and enable the installation of thousands of such chargers across the city.
