In a dramatic turn of event, a woman (25) working in a call centre on Thursday retracted her statement that she was gang-raped her co-worker and a cab driver on Wednesday night.
She lodged a complaint with the Gurgaon Police in the wee hours of Thursday, alleging that she was gang-raped in a moving car on the busy Mehruali-Gurgaon road. However, she retracted her statement before a city court later. The police have registered a case and are ascertaining the veracity of her statement.
According to police, the victim, a native of Hyderabad, is a resident of Madangir area of South Delhi. In her statement to police, the woman said that the incident took place around 7 pm. She told the police that she mistook a vehicle parked outside her call centre office as her office cab on Wednesday and boarded it. She said there were two people sitting in the cab who took turns to rape her in the moving car for three hours and then dumped her around 10:30 pm in a isolate place near a bus stand.
“The woman then called her colleagues and narrated her ordeal. They approached DlF Phase-II police station and reported the matter around 1 am. When the police took her to civil hospital for medical examination, she refused to undergo the examination in writing” the official said.
According to the police sources, she later told the magistrate on Thursday in city court writing that she had made statement to the police due to mental trauma and nothing had happened to her on Wednesday evening.
“The woman told us that one of the persons appeared to be a call centre employee. We are trying to verify her statement registered to the police and a case has been registered in this connection. We are also investigating the matter and are interrogating with the ground staff of call centre,” said Alok Mittal, Gurgaon Police Commissioner.
