A nine-year-old girl and a 15-year-old boy drowned to death in Hindon canal near Vaishali Sector-5 in Ghaziabad. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening. Police said at 5.30 pm, a girl of a nearby locality came to play along with other boys of her locality at the canal.
She apparently slipped into the canal while playing. The boy noticed her flowing in the stream, he jumped into the canal to rescue her. But the stream was strong and both swept away.
locals called the police. National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) divers were pressed into service. By the time they could be recovered, they were dead, said a police officer.
The boy was identified as Suraj, a resident of Hardoi, residing in Makanpur while the girl’s family refused to reveal her name. “Both the bodies have been sent for postmortem” said SP City Akash Tomar.
