Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav along with Cabinet Minister Shivpal Singh Yadav, Rajendra Choudhury and senior officials of the State held a meeting with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia at the Delhi Secretariat on Monday to resolve the dispute over the ownership of land along the border area.

Well-placed sources told The Pioneer that the Uttar Pradesh Government has given in-principal approval of the expansion of Jamia Millia Islamia.

The meeting was also attended by senior officials of both the States, in which the two sides discussed the ongoing case in the Supreme Court about the dispute over ownership of 100 bighas of land in South Delhi, which was cleared for expansion of Jamia Millia Islamia. The land is next to the Irrigation Department facility of UP Government in Okhla. later the Supreme Court stayed the move after the Uttar Pradesh Government claimed ownership over the land.

It was also decided that these officers would complete all formalities and surveys within next two months. After the survey is completed, Yadav and Kejriwal will hold a joint review to resolve the issue, sources said.

Sources also said officials have also been asked to prepare a report on alternative arrangements — such as the transfer process, whether any other land can be given as replacement and the circle rate of the land at which it will be given.

This is the second meeting of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav with Delhi Govern-ment. Earlier, Yadav had held a meeting with lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung in December last year.

Sources said that the meeting took place in a cordial atmosphere during which the two States tried to understand the viewpoint of each other, and the Supreme Court will be apprised of the outcome of the meeting on the next date of hearing.
