The Delhi Police was on Thursday sent into a tizzy after it received a call that the Delhi High Court would be blown up. The call was received by the control room around 11 am from a man who claimed to have planted bombs inside the court complex, police said. The bomb squad was alerted and the court premises were throughly scanned. However, the call was found to be a hoax, they said.
The call was made from Nand Nagari area in North-East Delhi from a BSNl number and we have traced the caller who is a resident of Baghpat district in Western Uttar Pradesh. We have sent a team to Baghpat and a raid was conducted at his house with the help of the Baghpat Police but the accused was missing from his residence, said Dependra Pathak, the Special Commissioner of Police and Chief Spokesperson of Delhi Police.
High drama unfolded at the premises of the Delhi High Court after police received an anonymous call about a bomb threat on its premises, which later turned out to be a hoax.
Soon after the call was received around 11 AM, Delhi Police Commandos of the Quick Reaction Team were instantly deployed at Gate-5 of the High Court along with the Bomb Disposal Squad and fire tender vehicles
The bomb squad was alerted and the entire court complex thoroughly scanned. Intensive search was carried out and sniffer dogs deployed. The police are on the lookout for the caller who has since switched off his phone. Senior police officials, including the ACP, were in high court and held meeting with the HC Registrar General D K Sharma in this regard.
“We carried out a detailed anti-sabotage drill but nothing was found. We have taken certain steps to maintain the security of the High Court premises”, said Pathak.
